Uganda begins evaluations of bids for Hoima-Kampala pipeline

Posted on : Friday, 2nd January 2015

The Ugandan government has announced that it has started evaluating bids from a number of international firms for the construction of the export pipeline from Hoima (refinery site) to Kampala (distribution terminal) stretching over 200 kilometers.

The companies will be charged with the responsibility of generating a blueprint for the route to be followed as well as carryout an environmental baseline study.

According to project manager Bashir Hangi the government seeks to complete the process by January with all the competing companies disclosed to be from outside Africa.

Another company will then be responsible for the implementation of a resettlement action plan for owners of land where the pipeline will take its route.

Progress of another section running from Kampala to Eldoret in Kenya carrying refined products between the two countries remains unknown.

This comes even as Toyota Tshusho continues with conducting feasibility for the crude oil export pipeline between Kenya and Uganda after signing the contract in November to initiate the project expected to take 20 weeks.

Uganda is also expected to announce the winner for the $2.5 billion refinery developer between South Korea’s SK Energy Co and Russia’s RT-Global Resources with the announcement expected soon.
