A 163 Billion Dollar Initiative to Alleviate Dodoma'S Water Scarcity

Construction on the 163.5 billion dollar Farkwa Dam is planned to start in October of this year, providing a long-term solution to Dodoma's ongoing water problems.

 

By offering a dependable and sustainable water supply, the project is anticipated to improve water security in the city and its environs.

 

It is anticipated that the dam, which will be built in the Chemba District, will support domestic consumption, institutions, economic activity, and future growth in Dodoma City, Chemba, Bahi, and surrounding areas.

 

The project will be finished in 22 months and have the potential to store 390 million cubic meters of water, according to Mr. David Manyama, hydrologist at the Ministry of Water.

 

In order to alleviate the water scarcity in Dodoma City, Chemba, Bahi, and the adjacent areas, the Farkwa Dam will be crucial. The project is anticipated to cost approximately 163.5 billion dollars, he stated.

 

According to Mr. Manyama, there will be two stages to the implementation. While the second phase will concentrate on delivering treated water to Dodoma City, Bahi District, and Chemba District headquarters, the first phase will involve building the dam and water treatment facilities.

 

He stated that the project is anticipated to greatly increase water availability, with the dam predicted to provide roughly 128,000 liters of water per day when it is finished.

 

The project is anticipated to boost economic activity through irrigation farming, fish farming, and other water-based initiatives in addition to increasing access to water.
