The LAAF Project to Provide 200 Solar Power Kits to Three Schools On Lamu Island

Posted on : Friday, 17th May 2024

200 solar power kits from the Lighting an African Family (LAAF) project will be presented to three schools in Lamu County.

Donations of solar panels, batteries and lights will support education without the constraints of erratic electrical supplies.

The solar power kits were given to the Manda Manewi Secondary School and the Manda Airport Primary and Secondary Schools on Lamu Island as part of a project started by Bluetti, a global producer of renewable energy solutions.

Allen Yan, the sales manager for Bluetti Kenya, spoke at Manda Airport School during the official handover ceremony and kit demos. He reaffirmed the company's commitment to helping poor African communities by way of the LAAF project.

According to him, the project's goal is to give millions of African families access to sustainable energy.

Yan stated, "We hope to improve the learning environment and empower the students in underserved areas with resources and opportunities that will help propel them for a better future by donating these lighting products to Manda Schools."

The three schools struggle with issues like poor roads, an unstable power supply, a distant location and a shortage of potable water.

Numerous times, this has resulted in energy shortages for the community at large as well as schools.

James Kimemia, the principal of Manda Secondary School, predicted that the donations will completely change the institutions.

According to him, the solar lighting items will give pupils a steady source of light so they may study at night and do their assigned work.

"The doors to a better future will open thanks to this kind donation. For their dedication to enhancing education in our community, Bluetti has our sincere gratitude," Kimemia said.

A consistent power supply has hampered many facets of communal life on Lamu Island and has impacted day-to-day operations in the community, according to a community leader known only as Chief Yussuf. However, the donation would greatly lessen that.

"Families will now have access to dependable lighting in their homes, which will improve safety and support the community's other basic electricity needs, particularly at night."
