Officials from Uganda and Tanzania Discuss Energy and Mining Cooperation

Posted on : Monday, 29th April 2024

To discuss bilateral cooperation in the energy, mining, oil, and gas sectors, a delegation from the ministry of energy is in Tanzania.

The delegation was led by energy minister Ruth Nankabirwa, He stated That "We are in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and we met the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko to discuss the current state and prospects for bilateral co-operation in the energy, mining, oil, and gas sectors to strengthen ties between Tanzania and Uganda."

In April 2023, Tanzania and Uganda inked a bilateral deal to build a natural gas pipeline that will improve both nations' economic growth and energy security.

Natural gas from Tanzania's southern areas will be transported by pipeline to Uganda, where it will be utilized to run factories and produce electricity. In addition, the project is anticipated to draw in international investment and generate jobs.

Biteko and Nankabirwa signed the agreement on behalf of Tanzania and Uganda, respectively. Biteko invited investors to come and participate in the natural gas industry, pointing out that the amount of gas processed daily has reached 250 million cubic feet, of which 80% is used to generate electricity and 20% is utilized for transportation, industry, and residential purposes.

In East Africa's efforts to integrate its energy resources, the Tanzania-Uganda gas pipeline project represents a noteworthy turning point.

It will draw in foreign investment, generate jobs, and support economic growth and energy security in both nations.
