Tanzanian infrastructure gets a big boost with a USD 44.5 million allocation

A USD 44.5 million budget has been announced by the Government of Tanzania for the construction, upgrading and rehabilitation of airports around its country in the upcoming financial year. This decision is purely aimed at improving the country's infrastructure and aviation industry.
Isack Kamwelwe, the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication revealed that out of USD 2.1 billion financial budget, a total of USD 1.9 billion will fund the development projects while the remaining will be spent on recurrent and other expenditures. It can be seen that with the aim of developing such big projects, the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication has increased its budget by 14% in the upcoming financial year.
Presently the construction of Kigoma, Msalato, Tabora, Sumbawanga and Shinyanga airports have been prioritized by Mr Kamwelwe, which is expected to start in the coming year. Contractors are expected to start by reviewing the feasibility and detailed engineering design for the Msalato airport while for other airports such as Sumbawanga, Kigoma, Tabora and Shinyanga construction of car parking, light system installation and repairing terminal buildings will be prioritized.
The Minister further added that the projecting is also planning to upgrade and rehabilitate other airports such as Mtwara, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Songwe and Arusha airport. It is also expected that investors will be funding around USD 27 million while the remaining amount is planned to be collected from local financing sources.
