Locals and traders of Majengo market in Vihiga Sub County will soon experience enhanced security and working hours following World Bank’s move to entirely fund installation 15 high mast floodlights project in the Municipality at a cost of about Sh.52.5 million.
The Vihiga County Governor, Dr. Wilber Ottichilo and his Deputy Governor (DG), Dr. Patrick Saisi led a team of county officials and World Bank representatives were present during the official ground-breaking ceremony at Majengo town.
Speaking to the jubilant local residents, Ottichilo greeted the World Bank, saying installation of the high mast street lighting would not only enhance security in the area but will also boost economic growth and development in the county.
“The floodlights would not only provide security in the area but more importantly will enable our traders to increase working hours, hence turn Vihiga County into a 24hour economy,” remarked Ottichilo who cheered youth to embrace self-employment by entering into entrepreneurial activities.
The governor disclosed that the street lighting project would be extended to all major towns and trading centres across the county. Each of the floodlights will cost the World Bank about Sh.3.5million to install.
“We have started with Majengo town in Vihiga Sub County due to its strategic position,” he realized.
“Eight of the floodlights will be 30 metres high while seven will be 20 metres,” disclosed a World Bank official who addressed the locals.
The official further explained each of the high mast floodlights will be fixed with six powerful lights.
