Tanzanian Welders to be trained by Veta for Hoima-Tanga Oil Pipeline

Thanks to the training provided by the Vocational Education and Training Authority (Veta), the welders in Tanzania will be equipped with the international capacity to prepare for Hoima-Tanga oil pipeline jobs,
VETA Curriculum Development Specialist, Ms. Stella Ndimubenya said this when speaking to The Citizen at the Authority's pavilion during the 42 Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair.
She said this goes hand in hand with support of the government's five year National Development Plan 2016-2017 to 2018-2020 that requires vocational training graduates to increase from 150,000 to 700,000.
"We have initiated different pieces of training at different capacities including on the gas and oil, apprenticeship training which is also on the government plan requiring to increase graduates from 1000 to 20,000," she said.
According to her, in order for Tanzania to enjoy the Hoima Tanga gas pipeline, there is a need to have its own experts with adequate skills, instead of depending on foreign experts.
She said that the authority is also planning to increase its vocational training centers countrywide.
Currently, there were 29 centers scattered in different parts of the country including Dar es Salaam, Manyara, Songea, Tanga among others.
According to her, they were currently increasing centers in Geita, Chato, Simiyu, Rukwa and another in Namtumbo which are in final stages as they are expected to be completed before the end of this year.
"VETA's responsibility is to trains, coordinates, issues skilled experts of different professions as well as support the government's industrialization strategy," she said.
