Tanesco Project To Surpass Early Investor Expectations

Posted on : Tuesday, 17th October 2017

The Tanzania Electricity Supply Company (Tanesco) have committed themselves to provide an abundant stream of power to any large-scale investors with an interest in the Ruvuma Region.

Tanesco Ruvuma Regional Manager, Eng. Patrick Lwesya assured power supply in abundance to the Ruvuma region, once work on the Makambako-Songea transmission line is completed. He was quoted saying “People of Ruvuma will no longer experience power shortages as this project, which will connect us to the national grid, will give us enough electricity for small, medium as well as large customers,”. He made these comments while touring Tanesco projects in the Njombe Ruvuma and Mtwara regions with a team of editors.

Makambako-Madaba-Songea Power project manager, Eng. Didas Lyamuya provided a further update by revealing that power was already being supplied to investors.

“We have already constructed a power line to Kabambe Tea factory which is under construction in Njombe Region. We began the project right after the former deputy minister for Energy and Minerals, Mr. Medard Kalemani directed us to make sure that the investor is given enough power,” he said.

Eng. Lyamuya also said that the investor’s had initially only requested for 1MW. That amount could easily be supplied since Tanesco had already built a power line capable of accomplishing that. Tanesco will now surpass initial expectations with the completion of their works.

Eng Thomas Mhando, Supervising Constructor at a tea factory owned by Unilever, expressed his appreciation of Tanesco’s good work in the area and also his confidence in them, explaining that construction of the tea factory commenced only after the assurances made by Tanesco.

“Tanesco has indeed completed construction of a power line to this site and we are now sure that once we complete construction of the factory we will start production without delays because we have enough electricity,” he said.
