Nigeria's new gas power plant in Ajaokuta is underway

Federal government has reached a memorandum of understanding with 3D Hitech System Ltd for construction of a gas power plant in Ajaokuta. It has also reached an MOU with T SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Corporation and the CGC Nigeria Ltd for additional investment in power distribution and transmission in the country.
3D Hitech has already carried test running of the 110MW of gas power system, which will be commissioned in Ajaokuta. Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Patrick Azi, said ground breaking ceremony for the 500MW gas fired plant Ajaokuta, Kogi State, will be held soon, although installation will be done within nine months.
Nigeria has, not only been struggling in relation to power generation, but also transmission. The country targets at managing generation and distribution of 40, 000MW of power by 2020, and in addition to gas power plants and hydros, there have been attempts to bring renewable energy on focus.
Nig Ltd and SEPCOIII have committed to invest in providing the transmission infrastructure. Investors have also been assured of the government’s support and they will remain committed to the reform of the sector. Managing Director of CGC Nig. Ltd, Li Xuhui, assured the availability of the funds to strengthen the transmission network. Executive President of SEPCOIII, Zhang Hongsong, guaranteed that the company will ensure supply, refurbishing and replacement of transmission materials are given top priority.
Recently, Total company built a US$ 900 million worth of 24-inch pipeline infrastructure covering 50km to make sure it supply gas to the Alaoji Power Station.
