Tanzania: Ashok Leyland to Supply Vehicles Worth U.S.$170 Million to Dar

Ashok Leyland, an Indian based company has won an order valued 170m/US dollars from the government of Tanzania for purchase of Leyland's vehicles.
According to the statement released by Ashok Leyland's Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication, Mr Rajesh Mani the company will also supply generator- sets, spares and equipment for development of workshops, training modules and allied equipment to be fitted on ambulances.
According to the statement, the Ashok Leyland Limited Managing Director, Mr Vinod Dasari said his company values the export of its products to the international market and that its intention is to look for more other markets outside India.
He said: "The export to key international market is an essential part of Ashok Leyland's strategic goal to globalise its product portfolio and de-risk itself from supplying only into India," he said in a statement. He said the new order from Tanzania valued at 170m/-US dollars.
He said another African country that has recently placed an order is Cote D'vore, of which its order value 200m/- US dollar. He said there are good signs that Ashok Leyland's products are accepted in Africa and other parts of the World.
"We are truly enthused by this strategy to expand our global presence, as we are certain it will pay rich dividends in the future," he said. Ashok Leyland had recently supplied 773 vehicles into the country under line of Credit from the government of India.
The company is also looking forward to supply 777 vehicles to Ministry of Home Affairs. According to the statement, the 170m/US dollars order is being financed fully by EXIM Bank of India under the National Export Insurance Account (NEIA) scheme.
