Posted on : Wednesday, 21st September 2016

The much touted construction of Dodoma airport is set to be complete this week, allowing the airport to receive up to ten flights from different countries per day up from three that it received before the renovation.

This, coming at a time when the government finalizes plans to shift all its operation from Dar es Salam to Dodoma.
According to air traffic controller at the airport Mr. Emmanuel Kisumo, the expansion also opens room for planes with the capacity of between 70 and 80 passengers to land and take off at the airport.
"This demonstrates President Magufuli's commitment to move to Dodoma," said Mr Kisumo.
A few months ago, Dr Magufuli announced that his fifth phase government would be fully operational in Dodoma within the next four years.
Mbila Mdemu, an official of Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) who supervises the implementation of the project explained that some of the flights that can land at the airport as ATR42 42 (50 passengers), Dash 8 (50 passengers), ATR 72 (70 passengers) and Bombardier (76 passengers).
The airport's expansion is funded by the government at a cost of $5.3million. Upon completion, it will increase the volume of passenger and cargo traffic to the Central Zone regions.
President Magufuli is expected to officiate at re-opening ceremony of the Dodoma Airport later this month.
