For the supply of power, solar kits and small scale electricity networks will be set up. The service would be billed to customers through mobile networks, explained officials from Orange.
Engie’s expertise in renewable energy production, aggregation and maintenance, in addition to Orange’s dominance in the telecom sector can result in domestic power supply solutions for the rural population. First, trials will be conducted that will help companies validate technical solutions, sales and distribution models as well as the economic feasibility.
The two companies, which are official partners of the ongoing COP21 in Paris, France, are keen to drive their respective technical expertise to achieve sustainable progress, economic and social development in Africa.
Engie, which supplies 760MW of power to Africa, aims to become a major energy leader in the continent by 2025. For the same purpose, the company has set up a business unit in Africa, with around 100 employees.
