Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Industry State Minister Dr. Alemu Sime said that the industry and service sectors make significant contribution to the country's economic development.Although the country's development has shown commendable achievements, coordinated and concerted effort is still needed to ensure sustainable development. "As about 20 millions of citizens are still below absolute poverty line, we need to work harder."

 

Dr. Alemu further said that the manufacturing industry had registered 14. 6 per cent growth on the average during the First Growth and Transformation Plan period. The government plans to raise this to 24 per cent on the average in GTP II.
