The comprehensive dataset, including regional seismic and well data, will enable detailed interpretations of the basin's evolution and structural history. This collection, which includes 2D and 3D seismic data spanning over 132,000 km², showcases Tanzania's strong play diversity, proven through exploration success from Early Cretaceous to Miocene reservoirs.
This initiative will help identify oil and gas plays, enabling prospect-specific analysis and mapping of robust trapping configurations. The dataset will offer crucial insights into the maturity and distribution of source rocks, thereby enhancing the understanding of the region's oil and gas potential.
Under this agreement, TGS holds exclusive rights to license all of Tanzania’s offshore mainland data on behalf of the government. The agreement also authorizes TGS to acquire new seismic data and reprocess existing data. Additionally, it includes support for upcoming licensing rounds, anticipated to start in 2025.
By providing access to high-quality seismic data ahead of future licensing activities, TGS will empower exploration and production companies to evaluate opportunities in this under-explored but highly promising region of East Africa.”
